Helpful IT Tips
The scammers are winning!
Sophisticated overseas criminals are stealing tens of billions of dollars from Americans every year, a crime wave projected to get worse as the U.S. population ages, and technology like AI makes it easier than ever to perpetrate fraud and get away with it.
Internet and telephone scams have grown exponentially, overwhelming police and prosecutors who catch and convict relatively few of the perpetrators.
Victims rarely get their money back, including older people who have lost life savings to romance scams, grandparent scams, technical support fraud and other common grifts.
Four Basic Signs of a Scam
Scammers pretend to be from an agency or organization you know to gain your trust.
Scammers say there is a problem or a prize.
Scammers pressure you to act immediately.
Scammers tell you to pay in a specific way.
Known Scammer Tactics
Threaten you with arrest or legal action because you don’t agree to pay money immediately.
Suspend your Social Security number.
Claim to need personal information or payment to activate a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) or other benefit increase.
Pressure you to take immediate action, including sharing personal information.
Ask you to pay with gift cards, prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or by mailing cash.
Threaten to seize your bank account.
Offer to move your money to a “protected” bank account.
Demand secrecy.
Direct message you on social media.
How to Avoid a Scam
Remain calm. If you receive a communication that causes a strong emotional response, take a deep breath. Talk to someone you trust.
Hang up or ignore the message. Do not click on links or attachments.
Protect your money. Scammers will insist that you pay with a gift card, prepaid debit card, cryptocurrency, wire transfer, money transfer, or by mailing cash. Scammers use these forms of payment because they are hard to trace.
Protect your personal information. Be cautious of any contact claiming to be from a government agency or law enforcement telling you about a problem you don’t recognize, even if the caller has some of your personal information.
Spread the word to protect your community from scammers.
Report the scam to the Office of the Inspector General at oig.ssa.gov/report.
PET SPOTLIGHT
Living Their Best Life
Daisy Mae (2) and her brother Diesel (1), are two fun filled pups who bring joy to everyone they meet! 🐾
You can find this adorable pair splashing around at the lake, sniffing out new smells on walks, or snuggling up for endless belly rubs, courtesy of Kailey Neumayer-Quinones.
And don't even get them started on their favorite snacks - blueberries, carrots, bananas, and apples!
A Purrfect Pair
Meet Dale and Brennan, the 8 month old pair taking the world by storm!
These crazy kittens are always on the prowl for a new tree to climb, searching for the perfect spot to plot their next snack attack for lunch meat on their mom, Tina Panek!
When they aren't busy causing chaos, they love to curl up together for snuggles and purrfectly sweet snoozes. 😻
The Snack Squad
Isla (11) and her sidekick Luke (3), are quite the dynamic duo! 😎
With 8 years between them, they may not be identical twins, but they are definitely inseparable!
Luke's favorite activity is awaiting his best friend, the mailman, who he races down the fence line for a delicious little snack from the mail truck! Isla, on the other hand, can be found counter surfing for bananas, carrots, broccoli, or peanut butter, or you can find her cuddled up with Nicole Soltis after a long pool day. 💦
The Egg Bandit
Red (7) is a big boy weighing in at a whopping 120 pounds!
Don't let his sweet side eye fool you - Red has a penchant for getting into trouble! This big guy's favorite snack is the eggs he can steal from the chicken coop when his mom, Alyssa Colness, isn't looking. 😜
When Red isn't being mischievous, you can find him hard at work fulfilling his true Bloodhound dreams of tracking and recovering deer for hunters, swimming, and playing hide and seek!

Revving Up the Competition
David Brinkmann | Aftermarket Sales Manager, Badger | New Berlin, WI
Do you have a need for speed? Prepare to shift into high gear with David's RC car racing escapades! 🏎️💨
The engine of passion ignited back in 1978 when David's dad brought home a few cars around the holidays and introduced him to the world of RC racing. He has since constructed an entire underground track in his basement called RC Underground!
While David originally constructed the course to mess around with the cars with his kids and friends, the track has grown to become quite well known in the RC community! Some have even called the RCU their bucket list track to race at because of it's full electronic scoring that keeps track of everyone's laps, lap times, and finishing positions.
The racing is secondary to the fellowship shared among the competitors, and David is gifted with his very understanding wife, Wendy, who happily welcomes everyone who comes to the RCU to enjoy the hobby together.
Shear Brilliance
Alex Roldan | Floor Cleaning Equipment Demonstrator, First Access | Bedford Park, IL
Keeping your fade fresh is expensive, but Alex Roldan found a creative way to beat the hefty price tag AND stay sharp! ✂️
Around two years ago, Alex began exploring the art of barbering by testing his skills on his own hair which quickly became a passion. After seeing his handiwork, some of his close friends and their families began lining up (no pun intended) to experience his artistry first-hand.
Alex tells us, "The best part about knowing how to cut hair is being able to cut my own hair whenever I need. I also enjoy the conversations and smiles that my customers have when they see their result." His creativity and style has given him the opportunity to build a client base where he continues to hone his craft.
Atlas Golf Ball Magic: Hole-in-One
Zach Thielbar | Marketing Manager, ATMH | Elk Grove Village, IL
On June 30th, 2024, Zach had a tee time at Schaumburg Golf Course at 11:45 am with a couple of friends. It was the first time he brought his new Mizuno Forged irons for a round of golf. The key piece of equipment, of course, was the Atlas-branded golf ball with his initials "ZMT."
At Hole 6, Par 3, 117 yards out, Zach pulled out his pitching wedge. Thinking nothing of it, he hit his normal shot over the water and onto the middle left of the green. The pin location was just beyond where his ball landed, so he watched the ball slowly roll for about 5 yards before—boom—the ball disappeared. A hole in one, his first ever.
There was no need for the golf cart they were using. Zach and his friends immediately ran all 117 yards over the bridge to the hole to pick up the ball from the bottom of the cup. Zach says, “Word spread quickly on the course about my shot, and people were coming up to congratulate me as I finished the round. It felt surreal."
Back in the summer of 2022, Zach started taking golf seriously and playing regularly. Today, using an Atlas-branded golf ball, he achieved something every golfer dreams of: joining the 1% who have made a hole-in-one.
